When we walk in the wild undisturbed forest, we travel the paths of all ancient, primitive people and creatures that preceded us.  Our technology enables us to have a dominant role over nature.  Our defenses and weapons provide an advantage over the predators and dangers that await us.  Civilized culture has so altered the dynamic balance of "eat or be eaten", that it is difficult to know who is predator and who is prey.
