Painter’s Tip: Use reliable Materials. Do a sample test before doing a large project. Planning out the design – MKH, JG 2. Painter’s Tip: Keep it simple and save time to embellish. Projects, once started naturally expand. Color Basics – MKH , SG 3. Painter’s Tip: Start with a dark or medium background color first. Mixing paint - SG, MKH 4. Painter’s Tip: Use black sparingly! Teacher Note: Math & Art combined is important because it develops practical knowledge of percentages and fractions. Lack of understanding fractions and percentages is limiting. Too much paint will be mixed, the same color can’t be mixed twice. Imagine what the lack of this skill would do if you were an Artist, an Museum art restorer, an interior designer, a house painter, a Food Editor, a Pharmacist, a Parent taking care of a sick child, a Stock Broker, a Surveyor etc. Paint techniques - MKH 5. Painter’s Tip: Spray Surface with water to get the colors to blend. Damp is good when working with water based paint. It helps spread the paint out and can save money on supplies. organizing the work area 6. Painter’s Tip: Designate times to take a refreshment & bathroom break. People work more efficiently when they all have the same project objective. Scale anything up big - MKH 7. Painter’s Tip: Measure the location FIRST “Treasure Hunting” for materials – JG, SG, MKH 8. Painter’s Tip: Organize your materials into plastic storage boxes. These can be pulled out quickly for a quick project and save lots of time. Estimate the project time, MKH, JG 9.
